The Exquisite Corpse of Ronald Self

Ron Self is one of the few veterans I know. I met him when he was a student in a class I taught at San Quentin State Prison through Prison University. Through conversations with him I have learned a lot about what it means to be a Marine, a veteran, and also incarcerated. I admire Ron Self and I am grateful to him for sharing his experiences with me. I want to honor him by making him the subject of this piece. The two other artists who participated, Guss Lumumba Edwards and Stan Bey are both incarcerated at San Quentin Prison. Stan Bey is also a veteran.—Nigel Poor
