The Exquisite Corpse of Karl Porges, with Alberta Porges
Drawn by Maria Porges, Leigh Wells and Juan Carlos Quintana
I chose my father because his service to his adopted country changed him irreversibly, as it does many veterans; even as he saved lives, his own was permanently diminished. My mother, Alberta Bell Porges, who also served in the Second World War, is also present in my Exquisite Corpse, waiting to (trying to) catch him. I am grateful to them both for fighting against a crazy demagogue.—Maria Porges
