The Exquisite Corpse of Noor-Un-Nisa Inayat Khan
Drawn by Joseph DeLappe, Pete Froslie and Jeff Beckman
Noor Inayat Kahn(January 2, 1914 - September 13, 1944) was a Special Operations Executive for Great Britain during WWII. She was sent to work for the Resistance in occupied France as a spy and wireless operator. I chose to represent her for the many ways her life defied expectations and challenges typical images of military service. She did not serve because of patriotism or nationalism, but because she felt she had to serve in the face of unacceptable tyranny. To me, this makes her a global citizen and a voice from the (hopeful) future.—Ranu Mukherjee
